If you’re not 18+ then get out of my sights.

I once was at a convention, and a friend who has unlimited rizz put me in a circle of women who looked our age. He had some excuses and said stuff like he needs to go and they need to take care of me for a while.

I'm super shy and not good with words, but he made it somehow that they laughed and took me with them. It was fun, until they talked about classes, I asked what they studied, but they were not in college yet.

I was absolutely mortified, said sorry and left. Was the next 2h all alone at the convention, until my friend came back.

I would never have guessed their age correctly, if we didn't somehow talk about classes

You can be friendly with people even if they’re not at an appropriate age to date them.

Yeah, but the previous talks were very flirty. It would be super uncomfortable to stay there

Buddy if I was walking around with high schoolers at a convention I'd probably end up on the Internet

60

u/biuki 1d ago

Like I said, they looked as old as we did. And as soon as I knew they were not, I left.

u/CockpitEnthusiast 1d ago

Yeah you made the perfect call and did absolutely nothing wrong. I was talking to the person above me, and moreso meaning it like if it were me and I learned the info you did and instead chose to keep hanging out given the dynamic, it wouldn't be a great call

u/biuki 1d ago

Oh I see, sorry, sometimes it's hard to see who's response goes to whom

9

u/gereffi 1d ago

If these groups of people look about the same age but some are college sophomores and some are high school seniors I really don’t think anyone would notice or care.

When I worked in retail I was told to ID anyone who looked under 25. Young people, especially girls, can easily look like adults while still being underage. Fake IDs to get into clubs wouldn’t be so popular otherwise.

Redditors realizing puberty makes people look older but age at this point of life

u/ValkyrCodeWolfy 12h ago

I have a younger cousin that looks much older than I do, meanwhile I have to carry my ID literally everywhere because otherwise the conversation usually goes like this:

  • suspiciously looks at me and the alcohol I am trying to buy
  • me who is already seeing it coming from a mile away
  • Miss, may I see your ID?
  • Of course but before that, what do you think my age is?
  • Uhhh... 16... Maybe a bit younger?
  • Nope. takes out ID, shows it to the cashier
  • Cashier looks at me with a shocked expression
  • Yeah... I know. (I am like mid 20s)

I always get a laugh in the end though or at the very least a good chuckle XD

Mr President is that you?

16

u/RollingBird 1d ago

Oh please,

high school freshmen are definitely too old for him.

Mr President:

If their age is on the ⏰

They're old enough for....

Perfectly normal conversation until that question drops.

Don't worry. If you're rich, a YouTuber people like, the developer of Undertale Yellow, or Scott Pilgrim, it's okay

u/Mate_Pocza_321 1d ago

A Developer of Undertale Yellow, there's like, 20 people who worked on that.

At what age does your country's highschool end?

109

u/kloklon 1d ago

isn't 17-19 the normal high school graduation age in most countries? didn't realise there were big differences

46

u/TomaszA3 1d ago

In Poland it's around 18-20 depending on what you chose. By 18 I was only halfway through highschool without ever failing a year.(20 when finished)

The point is people don't look down at dating 18, 19 and 20 year olds, and the meme suggested that in OP's country of origin they finish it before they are legally adult.

9

u/kloklon 1d ago

if you are 21 it's completely fine to date a 18 y.o. - but at 30+ dating a 20 y.o. is almost equally messed up as dating a 17 y.o., in my opinion

u/qcon99 🅱️ased 1d ago

30+ and 20 is fine. IMO 23+ and fresh 18 is very odd, but not illegal… 22 and below dating a 18 year old isn’t that crazy to me simply for the fact that that’s the age gap for anyone in high school.

Now me personally, I’m 26 and hold a hard cutoff of 23. I don’t care if we click or not, if you’re younger than 23 I’m not interested. I just don’t see how to relate with someone that much younger than me as we are in different walks of life, and I don’t find it attractive to be with someone who can barely get into a bar

-6

u/TomaszA3 1d ago

I don't know why but I've assumed OP was in his 20s. Probably because I'm 25 now and it was my "default" projecting.

Yeah if a 30+ dates someone who literally just became an adult that's questionable. The older the more questionable.

u/kloklon 1d ago

i mean the meme implies they are 3 years after graduation so early 20ies. at that age there is so much change from year to year, even dating someone 3 years younger (which would be completely fine a few years later) may be pretty weird, depending on your day to day life.

6

u/Lorddocerol 1d ago

17 if you don't fail any year or didn't enter a year later

1

u/Legitimate-Proof5152 22h ago

18 but sometimes longer it depends

1

u/randomname_99223 18h ago

18 or 19, depends on which month you were born

45

u/HowDoMermaidsFuck 1d ago

I remember being… 19? And working at a Burger King and this girl came in that, from a distance I was like “wow she’s beautiful!” and I was trying to think of how to get her number but then she walked up to the counter and I went “oh… this girl is VERY young.” Probably was 14 or 15. Felt gross.

Why are mostly americans so weird about this? I met my wife when we were 15/13 in school. So should I have dumped her when I was 18 because she didn’t magically turn 18 at the same time?

27

u/imjustme610 1d ago

It's referencing someone over 18 talking to someone underage

19

u/Other-Cell-2061 20h ago edited 19h ago

You met her while you both were underage

If you meet a girl who’s underage while you’re an adult it’s weird

7

u/SuperBatzen 13h ago

Once when i was 19 i has hitting on a girl at sports and eventually walked up to her, planning to shoot my shot.

Thankfully I askwd about her age beforehand.

15.

I Went silent, but my mind went haywire ABORT MISSION RETREAT ABORT...

ske was like yeah plenty of guys assume me beeing 18 - 20.

4

u/Delicious_Door_3421 1d ago

If she's in the final year then it's only a 3 years difference

u/gamerfacederp I am fucking hilarious 1d ago

Yeah the last 3 years ive just assumed that anyone who looks roughly my age, unless i know them or someone my age knows them, its probably best to avoid them. Especially considering ive only recently started actually looking like an actual adult
